About
Windbostel
RWE and TotalEnergies jointly develop two large offshore wind projects off the German coast - Windbostel Ost and Windbostel West.
Located north-west of the island of Borkum, the sites are large enough to accommodate offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts each. Offshore construction could start in 2029 and 2030, with full commissioning planned for 2031 and 2032 respectively.
About the name Windbostel
Do you wonder where the name Windbostel comes from and what it means?
Contests have proven a popular way to decide the names of future offshore wind farms. And so we did one for these development projects, too. The creative minds of our project team find plenty of inspiration in the language of wind, sailing and mythology and handed in over 70 ideas. After a voting and a jury decision the winner was decided: Windbostel.
Bostel is a word that is often found at the end of a name for a village or small town in northern Germany. It is Low German for settlement or place. In combination with wind, it can be freely translated as “Wind Village”.
